La Laguna Glass Recycling Up 3.8% as Mexican City Removes 79k Tires

The municipality of La Laguna reported collecting 849 tonnes of glass between January and June 2026, a 3.8% increase over the same period in 2025 and surpassing the 817.9 tonnes recorded in the first half of 2025. The highest monthly collections were in January (180.5 t) and March (177.4 t). Councillor Fran Hernández credited the rise to greater citizen participation and ongoing awareness campaigns.

In a Mexican city, the municipal Direction of Limpia removed an average of 436 discarded tires per day during the first half of the year, totaling 79,034 tires – about 29% of the estimated 1,500 tires discarded daily. March alone saw 23,993 tires collected. The city has 400 tire shops, half of which are registered, and officials imposed fines on illegal disposers. Director César Díaz highlighted increased public reporting and the health and environmental risks posed by abandoned tires.
