La Laguna initiates process for Canary Gypsy Sociocultural Centre

The Town Hall of La Laguna has launched the administrative process to design and manage the Canarian Gypsy Sociocultural Centre in the La Candelaria district. The project, which has a base tender budget exceeding €340,000, will focus on the drafting of basic and execution projects, as well as technical oversight of the works.

Located on Rector José Escobedo and González Alberu Street, the facility is intended to serve as a public hub for community, social, cultural, and educational activities. Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez noted that the initiative addresses a long-standing demand from the local Romani community and aims to serve as a model for inclusion and integration across the Canary Islands.

The contract is expected to last approximately eight months, with three months allocated for the basic project design and five months for the execution project. The center is intended to combat discrimination and empower community members, including Gypsy women, through targeted social policies.
