La Laguna reuses 100% of regenerated water from Punta del Hidalgo plant

San Cristóbal de La Laguna has achieved a milestone in water sustainability by reusing 100% of the regenerated water produced at the Punta del Hidalgo Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR) during the month of August.

The regenerated water is primarily used for agricultural irrigation, specifically supporting crops such as bananas and papayas. It is also utilized for facility maintenance and the upkeep of municipal parks and green spaces. To ensure suitability for these uses, the plant employs advanced treatments, including ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis, which reduce salinity and maintain high water quality.

This initiative, driven by the La Laguna City Council and Teidagua, aims to reduce pressure on conventional water resources in the Canary Islands, where water scarcity is a significant challenge. Local officials noted that these infrastructure investments are transforming treated effluent into a reliable resource for the region's economic and sustainable development.
