La Laguna to replace religious crosses lost to Tajogaite volcano

A religious ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 26, in the La Laguna neighborhood to replace several 'Cruces de Mayo' (May Crosses) that were affected by the Tajogaite volcano eruption in 2021.

While some crosses were successfully rescued by local residents from the lava flows, others, including the Cruces de los Campitos, the cross of Tranquilina, and the cross of Javier Cruz, were lost. The event will feature a liturgical act in the presence of the 'Cristo de la Salud', a 16th-century image from Mexico. The ceremony is organized by the La Laguna de Tajuya Neighborhood Association and local parishes, with support from the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of La Palma, and the Los Llanos de Aridane City Council.
