Argentina legislative agenda advances with biofuels and disability law debates

Argentina's legislative agenda faces multiple fronts as the government seeks to advance key projects. In the Chamber of Deputies, debate is set to begin on a new biofuels regime. The proposal, which has already received partial Senate approval, aims to increase mandatory blending percentages for biodiesel from 7.5% to 10% and bioethanol from 12% to 15% over the next 12 months. This initiative is highly anticipated in provinces like Córdoba and Santa Fe.

Simultaneously, disability rights organizations have called for a march to the National Congress. They are protesting a government-led bill regarding the extension of the disability emergency law, warning that the current draft could lead to a rollback of benefits, pensions, and essential funding. Protesters are demanding budget guarantees and the maintenance of the public interest status for services.

Other legislative efforts include a proposal to reform the penitentiary regime by banning mobile phones in prisons and a stalled project regarding national sovereignty and defense. The latter, which includes controversial articles on combating disinformation and expanding executive powers in national security, has seen its committee debate postponed due to a lack of consensus among allied blocs.
