Javier Milei's push for electoral reform sparks provincial election race in Argentina
President Javier Milei’s administration is prioritising a package of economic reforms while the proposed electoral reform to eliminate the mandatory primary elections (PASO) has been pushed to a secondary level. The government is seeking Senate support for the reform, negotiating with governors such as Leandro Zdero (Chaco) and others to secure the needed votes.
A provincial election calendar was confirmed for Tucumán, with voting scheduled for 9 May 2027, making the province the first to split its ballot from the national October elections. Governor Osvaldo Jaldo announced the date after recovering from heart surgery.
La Libertad Avanza (LLA) emphasises the re‑election of Milei.
