Argentina political landscape shifts ahead of 2027 elections

Political maneuvering in Argentina is intensifying ahead of the 2027 elections. In the province of Buenos Aires, La Libertad Avanza (LLA) is accelerating preliminary talks with the PRO and exploring potential alliances with the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) to form a united front against Kirchnerism. While some radical mayors are engaging in these discussions, internal divisions remain, as many within the UCR maintain strong criticisms of Javier Milei’s administration.

Within the Peronist movement, discussions continue regarding whether Governor Axel Kicillof will unify provincial and national elections in 2027. Meanwhile, regional leaders are also positioning themselves; Alejandro Carrancio is strengthening his political structure in Mar del Plata with a focus on security, and the UCR has established a new Forum of Radical Councilors in Buenos Aires to coordinate a legislative agenda.

On a national level, the Executive branch is incorporating various provincial infrastructure projects—including roadworks and water systems in provinces like Mendoza and Entre Ríos—into the 2027 Budget. This move is seen as a strategic effort to secure support from allied governors in Congress. In Concordia, the UCR is working to consolidate its local governance, while in San Cayetano, Mayor Miguel Ángel Gargaglione is considering a potential move to run for office in Necochea.
