La Libertad political candidates trade accusations ahead of regional elections

Political tensions are rising in the La Libertad region of Peru ahead of upcoming regional and municipal elections. Eduardo Cassinelli Rodríguez, a member of the Partido Cívico Obras, has criticized several candidates for both the Trujillo mayoralty and the Regional Government of La Libertad, labeling them “impresentables” (unpresentable).

Cassinelli specifically targeted Mario Reyna Rodríguez (APP) and Robert De La Cruz Rosas (Podemos Perú) regarding the Trujillo mayoral race, accusing César Acuña of attempting to maintain power through political polarization. He also criticized regional candidates Elías Rodríguez Zavaleta (Podemos Perú) and Aldo Carlos Mariños (Somos Perú).

In a separate critique, regional candidate Elías Rodríguez Zavaleta called for investigations into César Acuña’s management of La Libertad. Rodríguez cited issues with stalled infrastructure projects, including hospitals in Santa Isabel, Otuzco, and Virú, as well as the Huanchaco-Trujillo road access. He argued that Acuña bears political responsibility for the officials appointed during these controversial bidding processes and suggested that legal and administrative denunciations may be necessary.
