La Liga faces rising broadcasting costs and domestic limitations

Spanish football is facing challenges regarding its domestic nature and the rising costs of televised matches. While national team successes boost morale, La Liga remains a largely domestic spectacle with limited international reach, despite an increasing number of foreign players.

Broadcasting costs for football have risen significantly. Data indicates that subscriptions have increased by 5%, with monthly rates moving from 109 euros at Orange to 117 euros at Movistar+. Over the last ten seasons, cumulative increases have reached 31.7% for Movistar+ and 74.8% for Orange. This trend, driven by high player salaries and transfer fees funded by media rights and sponsorships, is shifting football from a popular culture to an elite-focused activity.
