La Liga implements 40-camera setup for El Clásico
La Liga is deploying an 'A+' grade broadcasting setup for the upcoming El Clásico match between Barcelona and Real Madrid. To enhance the precision of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decisions and provide a premium visual experience, the league will utilize 40 high-definition cameras.
This upgraded technical specification follows recent controversial officiating incidents where limited camera angles hindered VAR intervention. The new setup includes specialized cameras for goal-line and offside technology, high-speed cameras for ultra-slow-motion replays, and cinematic angles. Due to ongoing construction at Spotify Camp Nou, a drone will be used to provide high-angle shots typically captured by a stadium crane.
The broadcasting team, consisting of approximately 30 specialists, will manage multiple simultaneous replay channels to allow for faster and more comprehensive reviews of controversial incidents. While the production team provides the footage, the VAR room retains final authority over which angles are used to assist match officials.
