La Liga president blocks unified European transfer deadline

Jan de Jong, director of the Dutch Eredivisie, has stated that La Liga president Javier Tebas is blocking proposals to implement a unified, earlier transfer deadline across Europe. While several European nations expressed interest in moving the market closure to August 15, Spain's opposition has prevented countries like England, Italy, France, and Germany from aligning their schedules.

De Jong noted that smaller leagues feel powerless to act without Spanish consent, as other nations are hesitant to exclude Spain from the process. The primary reason cited for Spain's stance is that Tebas wishes to maintain influence over the salary structures of Spanish clubs for as long as possible during the window.
