Villarreal defeats Valencia 2-1 in dramatic Mestalla comeback
Villarreal secured a 2-1 comeback victory against Valencia in the Derbi de la Comunitat at Mestalla. After falling behind to a first-half penalty converted by Pepelu, Villarreal equalized through Alex Freeman in the 69th minute. The match was decided in stoppage time when Georges Mikautadze scored in the 96th minute to seal the win for the visitors.
The encounter was marked by high tension and disciplinary issues, resulting in red cards for both Pape Gueye and Harvey Elliott. Valencia's performance was further hampered by a suspected hamstring injury to teenage forward David Otorbi, who was forced off early in the match.
Following the result, Valencia remains in the relegation zone with six points from ten matches, while Villarreal moves up to eighth place in the standings. Valencia manager Javier Aguirre expressed concern regarding the team's recent form and the impact of the injury to Otorbi.
