La Loma hosts first national meeting to promote Quichua language

The First National Meeting ‘La Voz del Kachi Mayu’ was held in La Loma, Figueroa Department, to promote the Quichua language and Santiago del Estero's cultural identity. The event brought together Quichua speakers, poets, musicians, copleros, teachers, and researchers from across the province.

The opening featured a presentation by Chobi and Edit Corpos, relatives of the renowned poet, writer, and musician Felipe Benicio Corpos, who shared details of his life and presented unpublished material and coplas. Organizers also highlighted the importance of recovering the former home where Corpos was born.

Participants from the National University of Santiago del Estero and the Bandera Bajada Teacher Training Institute contributed to discussions regarding intercultural bilingual education. The initiative was driven by the Asociación Civil Social y Cultural Alas de Esperanza and the Municipal Commission of Villa Figueroa to prevent the loss of the Quichua language and strengthen its teaching in schools.
