La Marquesa hit by intense hailstorm and heavy rain

An intense hailstorm and heavy rain hit the La Marquesa area in Ocoyoacac, State of Mexico, on Tuesday afternoon. The precipitation covered roads, green areas, and recreational sites in white, creating unusual landscapes in the popular tourist region.

The weather event caused significant disruptions on the Mexico-Toluca highway, particularly near the Monumento a las Alas. The accumulation of hail and water led to heavy traffic, reduced visibility, and slippery road surfaces. Some vehicles became stranded due to the thickness of the hail.

In the community of Salazar, local authorities from Lerma, including water, public works, and security services, deployed teams to manage the impact. Crews performed cleaning, drainage, and debris removal, and assisted residents in homes where hail accumulation hindered movement. Civil Protection and security officials have advised drivers to exercise extreme caution as melting ice continues to make pavements slippery.
