La Matanza, Argentina: 14‑year‑old girl killed in drug‑gang shooting

A 14‑year‑old girl, Candela Urquiza, was shot dead in broad daylight on Dupuy and Atalaya streets in Villa Dorrego, La Matanza, while walking with her 50‑year‑old grandmother, Blanca, who was wounded in the back. Security cameras captured the attack, which occurred during a gunfight between rival drug dealers.

Prosecutor Claudio Fornaro, head of the homicide unit, arrived at the scene, ordered more than 15 raids, and identified the suspected shooter, known as “Neko”, who fired from a white Volkswagen Suran. The operation also uncovered a burned house belonging to the suspect. The motive appears to be a territorial dispute over drug sales. The teenage victim was identified as the fatal victim in police statements.

The incident follows a recent triple homicide in the same jurisdiction, also linked to drug‑trafficking rivalries, highlighting escalating violence in the Buenos Aires province.
