La Matanza evaluates autonomous Digital Rail Transit with Chinese firm

The local government of La Matanza has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese company CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co., Ltd. to evaluate advanced urban mobility solutions. The agreement aims to incorporate cutting-edge technology into the district's public transport system as part of the development of the local Science and Technology Pole.

A primary focus of the evaluation is the Digital Rail Transit (DRT) system. This electric, driverless transport technology combines the passenger capacity of a tram with the operational flexibility of a bus. The DRT system utilizes fast-charging rechargeable batteries and bidirectional driving capabilities. Notably, it can operate via magnetic or virtual markings, allowing it to run in urban corridors without the need for traditional railway tracks. The technology is already in use in China, the United States, and Europe.
