La Matanza expands native plant nurseries in secondary schools

The municipality of La Matanza is extending its native‑plant nursery program to additional secondary schools. The latest recipient is Escuela Secundaria N° 90 Irene Bernasconi in Lomas del Mirador, which received a full environmental kit—including substrate, trays, hoses, pots, watering cans, hand tools and native‑species seeds—and teacher training.

Students will grow indigenous trees in classroom labs, take the traditional Environmental Oath and become active participants in local ecological restoration. The initiative is coordinated by the Secretariat of Youth and the Subsecretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development, aiming to embed biodiversity education and community stewardship in the district’s schools.
