LA Metro and ELERTS Deploy App to Tackle Homelessness on Transit

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development estimates more than 650,000 homeless and vulnerable people nationwide, many of whom seek shelter in public‑transit vehicles, stations and shelters. To address safety and service concerns, ELERTS Corporation offers the See Say app, allowing riders to confidentially report the location of unsheltered individuals. The app is now used by over 30 transit agencies, enabling dispatchers to direct resources, conduct wellness checks and improve the overall rider experience.

Los Angeles Metro has reported a recent drop in homelessness on its rail and bus system, citing the combined effect of outreach partnerships and tools like the ELERTS app. Officials say the technology helps identify problem spots quickly, supports vulnerable populations, and reduces rider complaints that could otherwise damage agency reputations.
