La Mola monastery to undergo archaeological excavations

The Diputació de Barcelona has announced an archaeological intervention at the La Mola monastery within the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac Natural Park. The project is part of an environmental improvement initiative for the surrounding area.

Initial phases of the work involve the manual removal and containment of asbestos waste and structures to ensure safety. Once this stage is complete, the Natural Parks Network will begin archaeological sounding trenches around the monastery. The primary objective of these excavations is to delimit the approximate extent of the necropolis linked to the monastery and gather data to better understand the historical chronology and evolution of the site and its associated settlement.
