La Orotava Hosts Spain's First National Congress on Traditional Clothing

The town of La Orotava in Tenerife will host the inaugural National Congress on Traditional Clothing on 2–3 October. Organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife and held at the Centro de la Cultura, the two‑day event will feature 11 speakers from regions including Zamora, Valencia, Soria and the Canary Islands. Panels, round‑tables and exhibitions aim to advance the study, conservation and public awareness of Spain's historic textile heritage.

Local officials highlighted the congress’s significance: Mayor Francisco Linares said the meeting supports preserving a key element of Canary identity; Cabildo president Rosa Dávila emphasized the role of traditional dress in reflecting history and culture; and councilor for Employment, Education and Youth Efraín Medina noted the years of work by the Council of Traditional Clothing that made the gathering possible. A preceding programme of talks and exhibits will be open to specialists and the general public.
