Argentina: Judicial battles over university funding and glacier laws

Argentina is facing multiple legal challenges regarding government policies. In the education sector, the Federal Chamber of Administrative Litigation has enabled the government to appeal a preliminary injunction related to the University Financing Law. This injunction requires the state to update salaries for university faculty and staff and to guarantee student scholarship funds. While the government argues the measure's timeframe has expired, the court ruled that denying the appeal could cause irreparable harm.

In environmental matters, the Province of La Pampa, alongside the National University of La Pampa and various environmental organizations, has filed an extraordinary federal resource with the Supreme Court. They are seeking to overturn a decision that rejected a preliminary injunction against reforms to the Glaciers Law. The plaintiffs argue that the new regulations reduce protections for glaciers and periglacial environments, which are essential for water reserves and basin regulation.

Additionally, local municipalities in northern Argentina, such as Aguas Blancas and Salvador Mazza, have filed an injunction against new customs regulations issued by the Agency for Collection and Customs Control (ARCA). The new rules impose a 150-dollar daily limit per person on goods crossing the border with Bolivia and restrict certain products like grains and large packaging, which local leaders claim is devastating the regional subsistence economy.
