La Paz authorities issue alert for snow and temperature drops
The La Paz Mayor's Office has issued an alert regarding potential snowfall and a sharp decline in temperatures. The weather phenomenon is expected to affect areas above 4,100 meters above sea level, specifically in La Cumbre and parts of the mountain range.
Mayor César Dockweiler described the current meteorological situation as atypical and unusual, characterized by isolated rains and sudden weather changes. While the cold weather poses risks, officials noted that precipitation in the mountain ranges could benefit the city's water reserves.
The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senamhi) also forecasts moderate to strong winds with speeds between 30 and 50 kilometers per hour through Thursday. In response to the weather, the municipality has deployed approximately 70 brigades to manage potential emergencies. Authorities have also warned of rising river levels, specifically the Choqueyapu River, following recent heavy rainfall, and have urged citizens to avoid crossing swollen rivers and to keep drainage paths clear of debris.
