La Paz buildings declared uninhabitable following heavy rains
In La Paz, Baja California Sur, multi-family buildings in the Valle del Mezquite neighborhood have experienced dangerous structural softening due to recent heavy rainfall. Residents report that the rains have exacerbated long-standing issues, including cracks, sinkholes, and structural ruptures.
Local Civil Protection has inspected the properties and legally classified the apartments as uninhabitable zones due to the latent danger they pose. Affected families are demanding immediate relocation, the cancellation or refund of their mortgage credits, and compensation from federal agencies, including Infonavit and Profeco, as well as the construction companies involved.
Despite previous meetings with housing authorities and consumer protection agencies, residents claim that dialogue with builders has failed to provide concrete solutions to these ongoing habitability and safety concerns.
