La Paz City Council approves funeral discounts and waste collection funding

The La Paz City Council has approved two new municipal programs aimed at reducing costs for citizens and improving public services.

First, a temporary discount program for funeral services at the Jardines del Recuerdo municipal cemetery has been established. From September 15 until December 31, 2026, families can receive a 20% discount on burial services, which includes administrative procedures, body transport, preparation, 12 hours of wake room use, and a simple metal casket. Additionally, a 50% discount is available for cremation services, both with a wake and for direct cremation. To qualify, services must be paid in a single installment.

Second, the council unanimously approved an emergency temporary employment program to reinforce urban waste collection. With an investment of over 1 million pesos, the municipality will hire 25 temporary workers between September 16 and December 15, 2026. Acting Mayor Amor Fenech Montaño stated the initiative aims to increase operational capacity, improve route coverage, and ensure efficient public services in various neighborhoods and communities.
