La Paz court orders house arrest for woman who buried infant daughter
A Bolivian court has ordered house arrest for a woman accused of burying her seven-month-old daughter under the stairs of her home in La Paz.
According to Colonel Jorge Sologuren, director of the Special Force to Fight Crime (FELCC), a medical autopsy determined the cause of death was aspiration. The examination found milk and other food remains in the infant's airway, and no significant signs of physical violence were observed.
Investigators believe the mother buried the child after becoming frightened by the father's demands for information regarding the baby's whereabouts and his threat to file a report. Following the incident, the woman reportedly fled to Chulumani. The woman's other child is currently under the protection of the Child and Adolescent Defense Office while investigations continue.
