La Paz authorities address water alerts and political attacks

In La Paz, Bolivia, municipal authorities and the water utility company EPSAS have issued differing assessments regarding local risks. The La Paz Mayor's office declared a preventive red alert due to extreme weather forecasts, potential El Niño effects, geodynamic instability in seven critical sectors, and hydraulic vulnerabilities. This alert is focused on landslide prevention and infrastructure risks rather than immediate water shortages.

However, EPSAS intervenor Edgar Landívar has countered these concerns, stating that the water supply for La Paz and El Alto is guaranteed until the next rainy season. According to EPSAS, the ten regional reservoirs currently hold 72.4% of their total capacity, amounting to approximately 45.18 million cubic meters. The company maintains that the situation is stable and has implemented water-saving campaigns to ensure continued availability.

Separately, in Mexico, Milena Quiroga, the acting mayor of La Paz, has announced she will request a federal expert analysis regarding a video showing aggressive messages directed at her. Quiroga is seeking to identify the origin and coordinators of what she describes as a “dirty war” and political violence intended to discredit her and the broader political project.
