In Hidalgo, Mexico, the State Attorney General's Office (PGJEH) is working to strengthen its investigative and victim assistance capabilities. Francisco Fernández Hasbun, acting head of the institution, reported a 32.1 percent reduction in the backlog of investigation files, decreasing from 177,632 in 2024 to 120,625 in 2025. The agency also plans to establish a specialized extortion prosecutor's office by 2027, which is expected to staff approximately 50 personnel.
In a separate regional development, Mayor Abelina López Rodríguez announced the allocation of 91 million pesos to bolster Civil Protection and Firefighter services. This funding, intended for vehicles, ambulances, and alert systems, comes three years after Hurricane Otis.
