La Paz, Mexico and La Rioja, Argentina Roll Out New Waste Management Programs

The municipality of La Paz, Mexico, began operational tests of a new solid‑waste transfer station aimed at shortening truck routes and cutting costs. Municipal president Amor Fenech Montaño said the pilot will reduce travel times from up to two hours to about 15 minutes, projecting an annual saving of roughly 10 million pesos. The facility is expected to reach full capacity by the end of the week, providing significant budget relief for the city’s public‑services fleet.

In La Rioja, Argentina, the municipal urban services agency (Emsur) opened a mobile "Punto Verde" collection point at Plaza España on Friday, operating from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The site accepts electronic waste, used vegetable oil, batteries, lenses, plastics, metals, glass, paper and cardboard, and offers participants a small plant as a reward. The effort is linked to the "Adopt a Tree" program, allowing residents to claim a street tree after registration.
