La Paz municipality implements new cleanup and recycling initiatives
The municipality of La Paz, Mexico, is launching several initiatives to improve waste management and beach cleanliness ahead of the high season. In Todos Santos, officials have reinstalled a 'Ruta Cero' recycling container at a high-traffic intersection to facilitate the collection of plastic and cardboard.
To support coastal maintenance, the La Paz government has allocated approximately 10 million pesos (about $540,000 USD) for new machinery, including mechanical sweepers, a backhoe, and collection trucks.
Additionally, a 'Macro Limpieza' (large-scale cleanup) is scheduled for October 29 at El Tecolote beach. Organized as part of the National Conservation Week, the event involves local authorities, environmental groups, and citizens aiming to protect marine ecosystems and mangroves. Previous cleanup efforts in the municipality during September successfully removed over 6 tons of waste, 74% of which was inorganic.
