La Paz reviews transport fare increase and ends extra water bill charge

The municipal government of La Paz, Baja California Sur is evaluating a public‑transport fare rise to 16 pesos city‑wide and 18 pesos in the El Centenario and Chametla neighborhoods. The proposal, presented by interim mayor Amor Fenech Montaño, was discussed with transport operators, who said the suggested amounts would still not cover higher diesel, parts and maintenance costs. The council will hold territorial assemblies and surveys in twelve priority colonies to gauge public opinion before any decision is made.

Separately, the city council announced that the temporary 11‑peso surcharge on water bills, introduced in June to fund the purchase of water meters, will be cancelled effective 1 August. Mayor Fenech said the program will “no longer be in effect” and that alternative financing will be sought for the meter acquisition project.
