La Peña indigenous community granted land restitution by federal court

A federal court in Ciudad Valles has granted a definitive suspension to the indigenous community of La Peña, ordering the immediate restitution of lands and homes to families forcibly evicted on June 8.

The eviction was carried out under orders from the Tampamolón Corona municipal government. The ruling, issued by the Fifth District Court, mandates that the properties in Rancho La Peña, located in the Agua Fría locality, be returned to the displaced residents.

This legal decision follows a provisional suspension and a subsequent determination by a Collegiate Tribunal. The case highlights ongoing agrarian and territorial disputes in the Huasteca Potosina region, where criminal investigations are frequently used as a mechanism to facilitate the displacement of indigenous communities.
