La Perla police officers injured in patrol vehicle crash

Two municipal police officers were seriously injured on Saturday afternoon when their patrol vehicle crashed into a wall in the San Miguel neighborhood of La Perla, Veracruz.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. while the officers were traveling on the road connecting La Perla to La Cumbre del Español. Preliminary reports indicate the vehicle, identified as unit PA-02, experienced a brake failure. Due to the slope of the road near the Adolfo López Mateos Elementary School, the patrol gained speed before striking a construction wall.

One officer was thrown from the vehicle and left unconscious on the pavement, while the driver also sustained injuries. Local residents provided initial assistance before paramedics from Civil Protection arrived. Both officers were transported to the Río Blanco Regional Hospital in delicate condition. The incident also caused a near-miss involving a pedestrian and her baby, and led to moments of tension between residents and subsequent police units arriving to remove the vehicle.
