La Pesca village in Tamaulipas faces weeks without water and electricity

The coastal settlement of La Pesca in the municipality of Soto La Marina, Tamaulipas, has been without potable water for about 15 days and without electric service for roughly two weeks as of 4 August. Residents and visiting families reported intermittent outages, with some sectors of the village receiving power while others remained dark. Two families, totaling nine people, left the area at night on 25 July despite Guardia Nacional warnings against nighttime travel, reaching the city of Ciudad Victoria without incident but frustrated by the loss of beach time.

Mayor Glynnis Jiménez, who recently attracted national media attention, has appealed to the state government and the federal federation for assistance to restore water wells and electricity. In the same period, Gustavo Adolfo Cardenas Gutierrez, nephew of Governor Enrique Cardenas González, was appointed the new national delegate for the Movimiento Ciudadano party in Tamaulipas, highlighting a political shift in the region.
