La Piedad hosts new environmental prevention center

The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) has inaugurated a Regional Center for Prevention and Environmental Quality (CRPCA) in La Piedad, Michoacán. This facility is one of two new centers in the state, the other located at the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Zamora.

The centers are part of a national strategy to shift from a model focused on surveillance and sanctions toward one that prioritizes prevention, self-regulation, and voluntary compliance with environmental regulations. They aim to provide training, advisory services, and technical assistance to businesses.

In La Piedad, the center will primarily serve the automotive, metalworking, and agri-food sectors. The initiative also supports the national commitment to the sanitation and restoration of the Lerma-Santiago river basin. Additionally, the centers will serve as a link between educational institutions and the private sector, involving students and professors in technical assistance activities.
