La Plata clothing retailers face closures amid economic crisis

The textile and retail sectors in La Plata, Argentina, are facing a severe crisis characterized by declining sales and rising operational costs. Several long-standing clothing businesses have recently announced their permanent closure.

Clan Issime, a prominent women's clothing brand founded in 1973 by the Bizet family, has closed after 53 years of operation. Once a major industry player with 129 employees and over 100 points of sale, the company has been reduced to just nine factory workers. The firm will auction its machinery and remaining stock to cover employee severance payments. Management cited a combination of falling consumption, tax complications, and competition from imported goods as the primary drivers of the collapse.

Other local businesses are also shuttering. The clothing store All You Need is closing after eight years of activity, with the owner describing the current economic situation as ‘insustainable’. Additionally, Alfis Jeans, which operated for 14 years, has confirmed its closure, noting that sales levels are no longer sufficient to cover rents, salaries, and utilities.
