La Plata man arrested for false robbery report after truck found in stream

A 42-year-old man, Damián Milhonic, was detained in La Plata after authorities determined he filed a false report regarding the theft of his Volkswagen Amarok. The vehicle was discovered partially submerged in the El Gato stream near Ringuelet.

Milhonic initially claimed that two individuals had threatened him and stolen the truck while he was at an ATM in downtown La Plata. However, investigators identified significant inconsistencies between his testimony and security camera footage. Upon being confronted with these contradictions, Milhonic admitted that the robbery was fabricated to cover up a traffic accident involving acquaintances.

The recovery operation required the intervention of La Plata firefighters and specialized rescue teams, who used kayaks to inspect the vehicle and ensure no one was trapped inside. The case is being handled by the 11th Prosecutor's Office of La Plata, led by Álvaro Garganta, and Milhonic has been charged with making a false report.
