La Plata Mayor honors immigrant communities for city contributions
The Mayor of La Plata, Julio Alak, held an institutional ceremony at the Municipal Palace to recognize immigrants for their contributions to the city's cultural, social, and historical development.
In honor of Immigrant Day, the event recognized 75 representatives from various communities, including Germany, Armenia, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Basque Country, Catalonia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Dominican Republic, Syria, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Since its founding in 1882, La Plata has served as a hub for diverse populations. While early waves were predominantly Italian and Spanish, the city currently hosts approximately 100 institutions representing foreign collectives and their descendants.
