La Plata Mayor to lead trade mission to China for infrastructure investment

La Plata Mayor Julio Alak is preparing for a five-day commercial mission to China, specifically targeting Shanghai and Beijing, to secure investments for the city’s infrastructure and economy.

A primary objective of the mission is to address the loss of approximately 10,000 tons of fruits and vegetables annually in the local horticultural belt due to a lack of cold storage and processing facilities. The administration is seeking Chinese investment for a potential 30,000 m² cold plant and a local drying facility.

The mission also aims to present projects for the reactivation of the La Plata Airport, the development of a logistics hub, and advancements in smart city technology. This follows previous discussions with Huawei regarding digital training and urban technology.

In preparation for the trip, Alak met with Chinese Ambassador Wang Wei to sign cooperation agreements between the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and local industrial federations (FELP and UIGLP). These agreements are designed to create direct institutional channels for trade, investment, and business exchange between La Plata and Shanghai.
