La Plata launches major renovation of Parque Saavedra
The Municipality of La Plata has begun the first phase of a comprehensive renovation of Parque Saavedra. The work, launched on a Thursday, follows an expanded public tender and an online public consultation that included the release of environmental impact studies. The project is funded with an estimated 5.152 billion Argentine pesos and is slated for completion in February of the following year.
The scope covers a full overhaul of park infrastructure: replacement of paving, new playground equipment, new public restrooms, renewal of furniture, tree replacement, and cleaning and restoration of the historic lake. A road‑reconfiguration plan will convert the surrounding perimeter avenues to one‑way traffic, adding almost two hectares to the green space. To protect the nearby Hospital de Niños, a 3.5‑metre emergency corridor will remain open 24 hours a day throughout construction.
