La Plata officials demand action over rising insecurity

Political representatives from the La Libertad Avanza party are raising alarms regarding rising insecurity in La Plata, Argentina. Deputy Juanes Osaba criticized Mayor Julio Alak, claiming the official's ambitions for the governorship are disconnected from the reality of local infrastructure and safety, stating that La Plata no longer feels as secure as it once did.

In tandem, Councilman Gastón Álvarez has submitted formal requests for information regarding the provincial security plan. His inquiry seeks details on police resource distribution, the operational status of patrol vehicles, and the specific number of officers assigned to prevention and patrolling within the city.

Councilman Juan Pablo Allan highlighted the Tolosa neighborhood as a critical area facing severe crime, including robberies and drug trafficking. Allan argued that the situation in Tolosa exceeds local capacity and proposed that the municipality request assistance from federal forces. He further advocated for increased municipal investment in security technology, cameras, and the use of non-lethal weapons for municipal agents to complement the work of the Buenos Aires Provincial Police.
