La Plata officials pursue airport expansion and Chinese investment

Authorities in La Plata, Argentina, have launched a strategic initiative to modernize local infrastructure and attract international investment. Mayor Julio Alak signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Shanghai with the Vice President of the All China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC) to establish direct cooperation channels between the business chambers of La Plata and Shanghai.

Parallel to these diplomatic efforts, the Government of the Province of Buenos Aires and the Municipality of La Plata presented a master plan to concession the La Plata Airport to private operators for 30 years. The project involves an estimated investment of $93 million and includes the construction of a passenger terminal for low-cost airlines and a multimodal logistics center.

A key component of the development is an industrial cold storage plant designed to support the region's large fruit and vegetable production belt. Local officials noted that the area currently loses approximately 10,000 tons of produce annually due to a lack of preservation facilities. The project aims to reduce operational costs and facilitate the export of agricultural goods to national and international markets.
