La Plata police raid tire shops over suspected public lighting theft
Police conducted raids on two tire shops in Tolosa, La Plata, following an investigation into the suspected theft and irregular possession of public street lighting equipment. The operations, carried out by the 11th Precinct's Tactical Operative Group, targeted businesses located on Avenida 520 between 16 and 17.
At the shop ‘El Pampita’, authorities seized seven LED units, including brands such as GEA, Luminac, Philco, and Philips. At the second establishment, ‘El Triunfo’, seven additional luminaires were confiscated, including General Electric and I-LED Hefesto models. In total, 14 LED lighting units were recovered.
The investigation was initiated after the Municipal Security Secretary, Diego Pepe, received reports from the Urban Guard regarding the presence of public lighting equipment in these commercial premises. Two men, aged 63 and 42, were detained during the procedures but were subsequently released by judicial order. The investigation remains ongoing to determine the exact origin of the equipment and how it was acquired by the businesses.
