La Poste considers changes to 471 postal offices by 2027
La Poste is considering changes to its network that could affect 471 offices nationwide by the end of 2027. In the Drôme department, six specific locations—Anneyron, Étoile-sur-Rhône, Montmeyran, Sauzet, Suze-la-Rousse, and Valence-Herriot—are identified as sites that may undergo transformation.
While the union Force Ouvrière has raised concerns regarding closures, La Poste maintains that these sites are under review rather than confirmed for shutdown. The company suggests that offices may be converted into communal postal agencies or merchant relays to adapt to declining foot traffic and changing usage patterns.
On a broader scale, the union SUD PTT reports that La Poste has closed 6,881 offices between 2005 and 2025, averaging 344 per year. Critics argue that these closures shift financial burdens to public spending through the funding of communal agencies and merchant relays, while potentially creating difficulties for small businesses and disadvantaged populations by increasing travel distances to access services.
