La Poste investigates abandoned mail found in Doubs forest
Approximately 62 kilograms of undelivered mail were discovered in a forest in the Doubs department of France. The items, which include simple letters and advertising materials posted between late August and early September, were intended for residents in the Anteuil sector, covering five villages with a population of over 1,100 people.
A forest ranger discovered the mail in the woods of Saint-Georges-Armont and turned it over to the gendarmerie. La Poste has filed a formal complaint and suspects a temporary postal worker, employed for a one-month summer replacement, of abandoning the items.
The company stated that the individual is no longer employed by La Poste and characterized the incident as an “isolated act contrary to the rules and commitments of the company.” Distribution in the affected area has since been resumed by permanent postal workers.
