La Quiaca merchants protest ARCA border trade restrictions

Merchants and residents in the border city of La Quiaca, Jujuy, have held demonstrations to demand the permanent repeal of General Resolution 5910/2026. Issued by the Agency of Revenue and Customs Control (ARCA), the regulation imposes restrictions on the Neighboring Border Traffic Export Regime, limiting the movement of goods to neighboring countries.

While local authorities successfully negotiated a 120-day postponement of certain restrictions, the La Quiaca Chamber of Commerce maintains that a temporary suspension is insufficient. Chamber president Walter Cadena stated that the goal is a definitive repeal to protect local jobs and the regional economy, noting that the current regulatory framework is obsolete compared to modern commercial dynamics.

Jujuy Governor Carlos Sadir has met with local officials and business leaders to coordinate an inter-institutional working group. The group aims to engage with the national government to find a solution, as officials warn the measures could lead to significant job losses and economic instability across the province.
