La Reforma to host river basin awareness event

The “4 Ríos, Un Desafío Original” initiative, promoted by the Government of La Pampa, will hold its third event on October 4 in La Reforma. This event focuses on the Salado River and the Desaguadero – Salado – Chadileuvú – Curacó fluvial system.

The initiative aims to highlight the critical impact of reduced water flow within this extensive interior basin, which spans the provinces of La Rioja, San Juan, San Luis, Mendoza, and La Pampa. Organizers state that unilateral water management and retention upstream have caused systematic damage to Pampean territory, depriving riverside towns such as Santa Isabel, Limay Mahuida, La Reforma, and Puelches of regular water flow.

Beyond environmental concerns regarding wetland biodiversity, the lack of water affects the socio-economic stability of the region, specifically impacting local producers and livestock farmers who depend on soil moisture and water resources for survival.
