La Rioja allocates 1.34 million euros to support rural village bars

The Government of La Rioja has allocated 1.34 million euros to 33 local entities to improve, construct, or adapt municipal bars and cafes in towns with populations of up to 500 inhabitants. This initiative, published in the Official Gazette of La Rioja, aims to strengthen these spaces, which serve as essential meeting points and basic service hubs in small localities.

The majority of the funding, totaling 1.10 million euros, is designated for the renovation of existing bars across 31 local entities, including Torre en Cameros, Gallinero de Cameros, and Terroba. An additional 234,654 euros will be used to create new establishments or adapt existing municipal premises in Valdemadera and San Millán de Yécora.

This represents the first time the regional executive has launched a specific funding line for municipalities with limited economic resources. Beyond hospitality, the subsidies may also fund areas for the direct sale of basic goods, such as bread, packaged foods, or hygiene products, to help combat the loss of essential services in rural areas.
