La Rioja approves first Security and Citizen Coexistence Law

La Rioja has approved its first Security and Citizen Coexistence Law, establishing a comprehensive legal framework to unify public safety policies. The legislation consolidates previously dispersed regulations into a single body of law aimed at crime prevention, crime control, and the protection of constitutional rights.

The new law implements a unified leadership model led by the Governor and the Minister of Security, Justice, and Human Rights. This structure is designed to ensure effective coordination between the Provincial Police and the Penitentiary Service.

As part of the reform, the provincial police force will be reorganized into 14 specialized general directorates covering areas such as criminal intelligence, operations, investigations, and gender. Additionally, the law establishes territorial command structures in both the capital and the interior to decentralize decision-making and provide localized responses.
