La Rioja childhood vaccination rates rise under ‘Activá tu Escudo’

The provincial government of La Rioja is seeing increased childhood vaccination rates through its interministerial strategy, ‘Activá tu Escudo’. This initiative, a collaboration between the Ministries of Health and Education, targets students in initial and primary school levels.

In the first 38 days of implementation, vaccination coverage for children born in 2020 and 2021 rose from 40% to 54%. For those born in 2015, coverage increased by approximately 10 percentage points, currently exceeding 60%.

Several departments, including Chamical, Vinchina, and Sanagasta, have already met or exceeded the 90% coverage goal for one of the prioritized cohorts. The program aims to reach a 90% threshold to strengthen community protection against vaccine-preventable diseases.
