La Rioja Green Way follows former Haro-Ezcaray railway route

The former Haro-Ezcaray narrow-gauge railway, which operated between 1916 and 1964 to transport timber, livestock, minerals, and passengers through the Oja River valley, has been transformed into a 39.55-kilometer Green Way (Vía Verde).

This natural path allows travelers to cross La Rioja Alta from south to north with minimal elevation changes. The route features asphalt and compacted earth, making it suitable for walking, cycling, and individuals with reduced mobility.

Key landmarks along the route include the French route of the Camino de Santiago in Santo Domingo de la Calzada, known for its 14th-century walls and Romanesque and Gothic cathedral. The path concludes in Ezcaray, where the original late-19th-century wooden train station has been rehabilitated into a restaurant and terrace.
